Our Ambassador

Simon Collis

HMA Simon Collis

I am very happy to return to Syria, the country where I first studied the Arabic language over 25 years ago, and which I have regularly visited since. I return at an important time for our relations, and for the region.

The British Government will continue to support the reform process in Syria through dialogue and partnership with the Government and people of Syria.  The UK, including our private sector, is closely engaged in several areas of economic reform. The next few years will see the forces of change increase around the world in ways which we cannot predict but which will present opportunities as well as challenges for all of us.

The role of an Embassy includes but is not limited to contact with official bodies. I am keen that we are as helpful and efficient as possible with everyone who uses our services. British nationals in need of a new passport, or our help in a crisis. Syrians and other nationals coming to us for visas. Or simply people seeking information and advice. All those who come into contact with the Embassy, for whatever reason, can expect an efficient professional service delivered with friendliness and courtesy. I am determined that we should restore a full visa service as soon as we can: the current restrictions are forced on us by security and building issues, but solutions are on the way and I hope we will be able to expand our service again within a few months.
